'`"`
July 13, 2004
Mined Land Reclamation Board
Division of Minerals and Geology
State of Colorado
1313 Sherman Street, Suite 215
Denver, co 80203 RECEIVED
RE: Platte Sand & Gravel, LLC - S&H Mine ~V~ ~ ~ Z~
MLRB Permit#M-2000-158 r
Division at Minerals end GealogY
To Whom It May Concern:
This letter is written in response to the amendment filed for the above referenced
mine. I am a resident of the area and am very concerned about the adverse impact the
mine will have on the area.
The amendment to implement a dry operation at the mining site could be very
detrimental to neighboring agricultural and domestic wells. I own an 80 acre farm
adjacent to the mine site. I have an agricultural well that supplies water for 20 acres of
hay and pasture. As you can imagine, I am greatly concerned about the possibility of
alterations in the water table that could affect my agricultural and domestic wells. To my
knowledge, there is no protection offered to adjacent landowners for their wells.
The proposed use of land is listed as water storage and private wildlife habitat. A
flood protection plan should be instiruted to protect adjacent residents since the site is
within the 100-yeaz flood plain.
The mining operation's wastewater and toxic by-products could greatly impact
the agricultural land in this azea. Many farms are in the near vicinity of the mining
operations, not to mention the wildlife habitat in the area. Proper containment of the
wastewater and toxic by-products is critical in the protection of groundwater and the
environment.
Thank you for your consideration in this matter.
Sincere y, %~~~%~-,
Rristi Plutt '
11247 Weld County Rd. 36
Platteville, CO 80651
r -~'_
~~
