objcc~•G+r, le~lw-
~~~
Ms. Kate Pickford
Division of Minerals and Geology
North Minerals Supervisor
1313 Sherman St. Suite 215
Denver Colorado 80203
Re: Platte Sand & Gravel LLC S&H Mine
~1LR$ Permit # 2000-158
Technical Revision
Deaz Kate:
RECEIVED
JUL 13 20Q4
Divisroa atMinerals and OasloaP
This letter is notice of objection to the amendment that has been filed with your
off ce. This amendment is asking to change the method of extraction from WET mining
to DRY mining. This would be a MAJOR change and could have a dramatic effect to the
current water tables in the surrounding properties. Currently there is an agreement with
adjacent property owners to protect their wells against the loss of water. There is also a
requirement to install 44001f. of rechazge channel with monitoring wells. To date
neither the channel or the wells have been constructed even though there has been an
excavation exposing ground water to evaporation for almost a yeaz.
My questions and concerns with a slung wall aze:
Who will install the wall?
Who inspects the installation?
Will there be monitoring wells?
Has there been an investigation at the actual wal] location to establish the depth of the
wall for 3 ft, penetration into the shale?
How do you test a slurry wall to know it has completely sealed out all surrounding
ground water?
Wiil the surrounding property owners have time to address concems after the hearing as
we do not have all the information?
What happens to the current agreement with property owners?
With these and other questions still unanswered we I would ask the Division to deny the
amendment.
Sincerely,
U~"'1- I
Stanley Odenbaugh
11100 WCR 38
Platteville Colorado 80651
