Pickford <br />Environmental Protection Speaatist <br />Division of Minerals and Geology <br />1313 Sherman Street, Room 215 <br />Denver, Colorado 80203 <br />RE: Platte Sand & Gravel LLC, S & H Mine, Permit No. M•2000.158, Revision No. Am-1 <br />Dear Ms. Pickford: <br />The Town of Milliken respectfully requests that the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board <br />consider the following issues during its consideration of the Platte Sand & Gravel's request to <br />amend permit M•2000.158. <br />Mining Plan <br />1, .What kind of plan does the operator have in place to resolve issues and to mitigate <br />impacts that result from the mining operation? <br />2. The South Platte Rlver Corridor cpntains some of the area's most valuable wildlife habitat. <br />How wit! the proposed operation impact the riparian areas, cottonwood galleries and the <br />river corridor (i.e. What trees will be removed? How will the operator monitor and care for <br />• existing trees to ensure they survive? What measures will betaken to ensure they receive <br />sufficient wateR What mitigation measures are proposed? The Town is aware that the <br />fiver corridor contaihs Prebies' Meadow Jumping Mouse and Bald Eagle habitat. What <br />steps has the operator taken to protect these species? Has the Colorado Division of <br />Wildlife reviewed and commented on the mining plan?. <br />3. The Town is concerned that the applicant has not finalized the Road Maintenance <br />' Agreement wish Weid County. This is a violation of the Annexation and Development <br />Agreement that the operator entered into with the Town of Milliken on January 22, 2003. <br />Further, it is the Town's understanding that the operation has not received filial approval <br />from the Milliken Fire Protection District. <br />4. What is the applicant's weed management plan? <br />5. The Town is aware that this site is of historical significance. What measures will be taken - - <br />tnprotect the petroglyphs and other sensitive hilt a <br /> <br />
