CAMEO GRAVEL
EXHIBIT D
MINING PLAN
Portable Sanitary facilities shall be maintained on each excavation or processing site as
needed.
The soils characteristics are generally uniform throughout the site and the re-vegetation
plan previously recommended by the Tri-river Extension Service will be utilized.
No discharge of stone water shall occur from the affected area, but will be collected in
impoundment areas for re-vegetation and dust control.
The predicted life of the expanded mine plan will exceed 50 years, depending on
demand and construction materials produced, such as screened rock, large lava,
rip/rap, landscape stone and road base.
No blasting will occur during the extraction process.
7.) PROJECTED NEED:
It is anticipated that 40-50,000 ton of crushed material plus 10-20,000 ton raw material
will be mined per season Yo meet the demand of the community.
8.) EXISTING/SURROUNDING USES
The proposed gravel pit is for the removal of large lava or Basalt boulders for use as
rip/rap and landscaping purposes. Any select material found suitable as road base or
structural fill wilt also be utilized. The proposed mining stes are presently zoned
agricultural/forestry transitional (AFT).
The proposed sites are primarily located Southeast of Cameo on a high mesa which
slopes Northwesterly at 5 - 6 % grade toward the Colorado River.
In the early 1900's the site was farmed by a pioneer by the name of Crawford. Later
the property and water rights were sold to the Town of Palisade. The water rights were
transfened upstream on Rapid Creek and converted to domestic use for the Town of
Palisade.
Junior water rights exist which are owned by Powder Mountain Ranch and are used to
irrigate the subject property; however they are low priority rights and get water only
during Spring run-off. Because no water right is owned by the petitioner, the land
included in this application is presently used for limited livestock grazing and wildlife
habitat (Range land).
The surrounding property consists of large parcels of 26 acres or more, also used
primarily for limited livestock grazing and wildlife habitat. There are existing electric
transmission lines, gas pipelines, and water pipelines on the surrounding properties.
A 100 foot wide electric transmission line right-of-way exists along the North portion of
the petitioners property. The easement has been excluded from the proposed sites
(See Middle Mine plan), and will not be impacted by the mining plan.
