CAMEO GRAVEL
EXHIBIT D
MINING PLAN
4.) SITE OPERATION AND IMPACT:
The hours of operation approved for Cameo Gravel Extraction by Mesa County
Conditional Use Permit shall be 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM, 7 days a week. The proposed
materials storage area, sales office and scales shall be located at the North end of a
high Mesa near I-70 frontage road. The natural topography of the proposed site is wetl
buffered will restrict view from I-70 corridor or any residential site. Therefore, impact of
the site operations on surrounding land uses will be minimal.
5.) SITE ACCESS:
Private access to the sites via Rapid Creek Road will be allowed to operator or
employees. However, Cameo Gravel Pit commercial traffic will use I-70 access road in
order to prevent traffic hazards and to minimize traffic congestion along Rapid Creek
Road.
The site will be accessed from I-70 interchange via Gay Johnson's Truck Stop which is
open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The adjacent Cameo Steam Plant and Ute Water
Filter Plant operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Powderhorn Coal Mine, although
now closed, previously operated 24 hours a day.
Site design utilizes the close proximity of I-70 frontage road now used primarily for
commercial purposes and will have no impact on residential areas. Traffic to and from
the site will use the existing haul road from the I-70 frontage road for a distance of 4000
feet. The traffic generated will be directly related to the demand for material and is
estimated not to exceed 150 loads per day.
6.) MINE PLAN:
The gravel extraction depth is variable due to the thickness of the deposits, but
generally will slope at 3:1 from the perimeter of the excavation lines determined from
the existing (electric, gas, or water) utility lines and from property lines. Top soil (4-12
inches thick) will be stock piled in berms adjacent to the last or future area of extraction
for replacement. Several areas of extraction will exist, but no more than 5 acres total
will be affected at any one time. Replacement and re-vegetation of top soil and shall be
in 1 acre intervals within 6 months of completion of excavation and shall be guaranteed
for three years or until firmly established.
Heavy equipment storage at various sites shall be limited to 16 vehicles related to the
operation. Additional heavy equipment may be temporarily on site during
crushing/screening operations.
Dust control of haul road and top soil berms shall be maintained with water trucks as
needed.
2
