1.2
development to allow time for representative testing without unduly
interrupting construction activities. Should the material prove to
be unsuitable, such material shall not be used.
Representative tests shall be conducted for every 10,000 cu
yds of material used as fill, or when a change in material occurs
within the borrow area or stockpile. Representative tests for
granular material shall be run for every 5,000 cu yds of material
taken from borrow pits or stockpiles and used as fill.
Construction Testino Schedule
During construction, the following schedule will be used for
conducting Construction Control Tests on each of the materials placed
during a work shift.
Number of Tests Quantity of Material Placed
1 test minimum Less than 2,500 cu yds
2 tests minimum 2,500 to 5,000 cu yds
1 tests/2,500 cu yd Greater than 5,000 cu yds
Tests may be conducted more frequently at the direction of the
Engineer or the Engineer's representative. Such testing will be done
when indicated as necessary by the following guidelines:
1) Areas where special compaction equipment or methods are
used.
2) Areas where the height of fill rises quickly versus the
quantity of fill placed.
3) Areas where compaction control is particularly important
such as around appurtenant structures.
4) Areas where the required compaction may noh have been
achieved based upon visual observations.
5) Areas where unacceptable material may have been placed.
6) Spot checks as required by the representative of a
regulatory agency.
