<br />ATTACHMENT 1 <br />QUALITY ASSURANCE PROGRAM -SAN LUIS PROJECT <br />The following description of specific quality assuranceJquality control <br />(QA/QC) illustrates the level of effort proposed for the construction monitoring. <br />In the description the Engineer is a Professional Engineer registered in the <br />State of Colorado, who is familiar with the design and has experience with <br />similar work. <br />1.0 Earthen Materials <br />The quality assurance (QA) program for monitoring the construction <br />of the tailings embankment, tailings disposal area and collection pond <br />shall be performed by the Engineer. The purpose of this program is to <br />document the quality of the work completed and the extent to which the work <br />is performed to the intent of and as set forth in the detailed construction <br />specifications and permits for construction and operation of the <br />facilities. The QA tests and construction observations will be done on <br />a periodic basis as indicated in the following sections. <br />1.1 Borrow Materials <br />Representative tests will be run on all borrow materials to <br />establish the appropriate material characteristics by which the <br />construction performance will be checked, and to determine that test <br />data used in the design are representative of the borrow materials. <br />Fill placement of borrow material may not begin until ?he testing <br />has been performed. <br />Should it become necessary to change borrow areas, <br />representative tests will be run on borrow materials in the new areas <br />to be developed. Test results will be used to determine the <br />suitability of new borrow material for use in the earthwork <br />construction. It will be the Contractor's responsibilit;y to notify <br />the Engineer of changes in borrow source locations in advance of <br />
