instability. Should signs of instability be noted, the <br />• Contractor shall undertake remedial measures immediately and <br />shall notify the Engineer as soon as possible. It will be the <br />Contractor's responsibility to remove all loose material from <br />the excavation slopes and to maintain the slopes in a safe and <br />stable condition at all times during the progress of the work. <br />Final disposal area and borrow area cut slopes shall be <br />no steeper than 3:1 for liner installation constrruction. Final <br />surfaces shall be smoothed of irregularities to the <br />satisfaction of the Engineer. Final disposal area cut surfaces <br />shall be sloped to drain so that no ponding develops from <br />direct precipitation and runoff. <br />5.1.4 Excess Excavation <br />All necessary precautions shall be taken to preserve the <br />material below and beyond the lines of excavation in the <br />• ~ soundest possible condition. Where required to complete the <br />work, all such excess excavation and overexcavation shall be <br />refilled with materials meeting applicable requirements and <br />furnished and placed to the satisfaction of the Engineer. <br />5.1.5 Disposal of Excavated Materials <br />Excavated materials that are unsuitable f'or, or are in <br />excess of, permanent construction requirements shall be wasted. <br />Waste piles shall be located outside the limits of the disposal <br />area as approved by the Engineer. Placement will not interfere <br />with the natural flow within storm drainage areas, with the <br />operation of the tailings disposal area facilities or other <br />mining structures. They will neither detract from the <br />appearance of the completed project nor interfere with the <br />accessibility of the various parts of the work. Waste piles <br />shall be graded and trimmed to reasonably regular lines and <br />. stable slopes. <br />17 <br />
