width of vein being mined. Ore will be removed from the ore chutes and
trammed to the adit portal via battery-powered electric trains, with waste
rock being removed in similar fashion.
Ore produced from mine operations will exit the mine via rail haulage and
be discharged into the combination ore storage/loadout bin to be situated
proximal to the mine portal. The exact location of the ore storage/loadout
bin structure remains to be finalized, and is dependent on the waste rock
dump configuration that results from initial mine development. As
depicted in Figure E-2(A), the structure is anticipated to be located on the
west side of the roadway; however, elevational and access constraints
may dictate that the final structure location be shifted slightly, to the east
side of the roadway. Regardless, an upper level (Mount Royale No. 1 adit
level) enclosed rail-dump feature will be located above the ore bins, and
ore cars will dump to the bins. Ore will then be dropped through draw
points to load trucks, and truck haulage will deliver the ore to the Gold Hill
Mill. Design considerations for the ore storage bin volume incorporate
sufficient surge capacity to allow either continuous or intermittent trucking
to the mill. The primary ore haulage to the Gold Hill Mill would be via
either the existing roadway that directly connects the respective permit
areas to the Mill, or via Boulder County Roads 89 and 52.
The underground mining activity that is proposed under this permit
amendment would have minimal surface impact beyond that associated
with the waste rock pile construction and mine support infrastructure.
Neither historic nor recent (modern) mining of the same vein systems has
resulted in discernible surface subsidence, and none is anticipated with
the proposed mining operation -this is attributed to the steeply dipping,
narrow vein ore configuration and competent wall rock.
A limited number of new or upgraded structures is proposed for the
operation, as most of the infrastructure has been or will be installed in
conjunction with the adit development resulting from the 2004-initiated
prospecting activity carried out under the Notice of Intent -Permit No.
P2004-007. Consistent with the methods employed during the
exploration program, explosives will continue to be stored in a secured
manner at the powder magazine facility. Ventilation plans, while not fully
defined at this point, will utilize existing shafts and adits for intake and
exhaust.
(f) Significant Disturbance
Significant surface disturbance will generally be limited to incremental
waste rock stockpiling at the Mount Royale Adit area waste rock pile(s).
This will include construction of additional structures such as the
combination ore bin/loadout and appurtenant service structures at the adit
location(s). Existing roadways will be maintained in their current
configuration, consistent with MSHA standards.
Exhibit C -Mining Plan q
