1.5 Soil-Bentonite Backfill
The soil-bentonite backfill will be tested for its properties according to the table below.

TYPE OF TEST STANDARD MINIMUM SPECIFIED VALUE
FREQUENCY
Density API Specification 136-1 1 per shift At least 15 pcf higher than
the slurry in the trench
Slump ASTM C143 3 per shift 3 to 6 inches
Geo-Con will sound the backfill slope at the beginning and end of each shift, and at additional
times if necessary. Measurements will be taken at 10 or 20-foot intervals to clearly define the
slope and the toe. The backfill profile will be recorded and reported on the daily QC report.
1.6 Laboratory Quality Control Testing
Geo-Con will collect samples of the soil-bentonite backfill at least once per day. A bag of
material will be collected at random times by taking some of the backfill at the point where it is
being placed. These samples will then be tested or archived. If freezer bags do not maintain
in-situ moisture content, other methods will be implemented.
An independent testing laboratory will conduct permeability and grain size analysis testing of
soil-bentonite samples. The test results will be submitted upon our receipt from the lab. The
lab tests wilt be conducted based on the following table.
TYPE OF TEST STANDARD MINIMUM SPECIFIED VALUE
FREQUENCY
Gradation ASTM D 1140 1 per 400 linear feet 15 to 50% passing No. 200
sieve
Laboratory
Permeability ASTM D 5084 1 per 400 linear feet 1x10-~cm/sec or less.
1.7 On-site OC Equipment
The following equipment will be utilized for on-site quality control testing:
1. Mud balance for density testing.
2, Slump cone for slump testing.
3, Marsh funnel for slurry viscosity measurement.
4, Sounding tape or cable for trench depth measurement.
5. Filtrate loss cell with nitrogen gas bottle
6. Slurry sampling tool

1.8 QC Reporting
Geo-Con will submit a daily QC report to the Engineer and/or Owner by Noon of the following
workday. The QC report format will be developed prior to mobilization.
02 - QC Plan
[3 Geo-Cori
