QUALITY CONTROL
`~
1.1 Objective
Geo-Con has developed this Quality Control Plan to define the parameters of Construction
Quality Control testing to be competed on the project. Geo-Con, as the slurry wall contractor,
is responsible for completing these procedures and tests.
1.2 Bentonite Slurry for Trench Excavation
Bentonite slurry used for trench excavation will be tested in accordance with the parameters
shown in the following table. Test results will be recorded on the daily quality control report.
SUBJECT STANDARD TYPE OF TEST MINIMUM SPECIFIED
FREQUENCY VALUE
Bentonite API Specification Certificate of 1 per truck load Premium grade
13A compliance sodium cation
montmorillonite
Water pH 1 prior to 6 to 8
TDS construction < 1000
Hardness < 250
Bentonite Slurry at API Specification Viscosity 3 per shift 40 seconds
the mixer 13B-1 minimum
Filtration 7 per shift <= 25 c.c. in 30
minutes at 100 psi
Density 2 per shift >= 64 Ib/cf
pH 1 per shift 6.5 to 10
Bentonite Slurry in API Specification Viscosity 2 per shift 40 seconds
the trench 136.1 minimum
Density 2 per shift 65 to 85 pcF and at
least 15 pcf lighter
than backfill
1.3 Depth and Trench Alignment
The depth of the slurry wall will be measured and recorded every ten (10) feet along the cutoff
wall centerline with a weighted steel or cloth tape. The depth profile of the open trench and
the backfill slopes will be recorded and plotted daily.
The trench alignment and offset control points will be surveyed prior to construction activities
by others. Survey markers with station locations will be placed at ten (10) feet intervals along
the cutoff wall centerline.
1.4 Excavated Soils
The excavated key material will be inspected to verify that it is consistent with the expected
key material. Samples of the key will be collected a minimum of every 50 linear feet and
archived.
02 - QC Plan
~ Geo-Cori
