stored in the permit area; it is taken directly to the job site. The concrete is to be batched on site and <br />delivered to the job sites by truck. The haul road from the processing area to the Highway 13 en- <br />trance in an existing road approximately 25 feet wide and 1600 feet long. A large portion of this <br />road is not in the permit area and no part of the road is planned for reclamation. <br />Future mining will take place initially in the area east of the existing Berry Pit disturbance and will <br />move to the southern lease (new lease area), as shown on Map C-2. Prior to any mining in the <br />southem ]ease, the sediment pond will be created in the southwest corner of the disturbed area. This <br />pond will handle the 100 year event from the entire site disturbed area. The southern lease will be <br />mined in strips of 200 feet width, which are numbered from 1 to 9. For the first strip (Strip 1) top- <br />soil will be stripped and placed in Soil Stockpile C to the north in the original Berry Pit area. Any <br />permanent slope cuts will be cut at an angle of 2.SH1.OV. The temporary cuts from Strips 1 and 2 <br />and subsequent strips may be placed at an angle of 1.OH:1.OV. Overburden will also be removed in <br />the same manner and will be isolated from the soil. Overburden will be placed in the original Berry <br />pit floor to achieve final grade. There will be no stockpile for overburden. Strip 1 will be mined and <br />placed to final grade. Soil and overburden from Strip 2 will be placed in Strip 1. Strip 2 will be <br />mined and the process will be repeated until strip 9 is mined out. The soil and any desired overbur- <br />den from the initial Strip 1 will then be placed in Strip 9 to complete the reclamation of the site. <br />This process is similar to coal mine stripping and has the advantage of keeping the overall disturbed <br />area to a minimum while reclaiming the site as mining progresses. <br />The highest production rates for the site are as follows: <br />Commodity Annual Production <br />Rate Comments <br />Sand and Gravel 250,000 tons/yr Many years may not mine this amount <br />Asphalt 50,000 tons/yr Many years may not have any production <br />Concrete 10,000 cu.yds/yr Many years may not have any production <br />Berry Pit 3/02 <br />
