ENVIRONMENT. INC.
AUBUST 2, 2004
PAGE B
Proof are the 12 new well drilled on the mine site since the
permit was issued on August 10, 2001.
• Recharge structures and test wells are not needed to ".
maintain the integrity of the amendment's proposed slurry walls
. The slurry wall will block the aquifer preventing the
ground water from entering the dewatering area. A recharge
structures is intended to reduce the impact dewatering would
have on the area surrounding an unlined area that is being
dewatered. We anticipate as much as a 4 foot increase in the
water table outside the line area. This will increase the
amount of water in the groundwater table, not reduce it, and
protect the surrounding wells. As noted in response #5, a
ditch will be installed and maintained along the south side of
the liner to regulate the ground water table and divert his-
toric groundwater flow that backs up along the liner to the
river.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Stanley Odenbaugh
Mr. Odenbaugh home is approximately 3300 feet east southeast
of the Sharkey's Lake liner.
There is no requirement to install the recharge structure and
monitoring wells until/unless dewatering is.taking place. No
dewatering has taking place to date. Responses are number below to
correspond to the order presented in the letter.
1. Platte Sand & Gravel LLC is contracting with a construction
company to install the wall.
2. The engineers hired to do the job. Eventually the Office of
the State Engineer will inspect the lined area to confirm the
reservoir areas are sealed per state standards.
3. Yes.
4. The Office of the S
what criteria needs
The contractor will
was build and meets
post a 1008 project
its job.
Late Engineer has guidelines that stipulate
to be met for the liner to be approved.
be responsible for guaranteeing the liner
this criteria. Our contract requires they
cost bond to assure that the liner will do
5. I can not answer this.
6. If he means the one on protecting their wells it remains
unchanged.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Kristi Plutte
Ms. Plutte's home is approximately 6125 feet southeast of the
closest slurry wall. Ms. Plutte may not be aware of it, but as can
be seen in the questions regarding well protection in her neighbors
letters, an agreement and protection plan is in place to protect
the surrounding wells. Dewatering of the reservoir area will be
north of her property and there will be little or no impact to her
