EXHIBIT I-I & J-I - SOILS AND VEGETATION INFORMATION
Soils & Existing Vegetation Inventory
Proposed Revegetation Standards
Wetlands/Siranthes orchid Investigation
Corp of Engineers Application and Wetlands Mitigation Plan
On EXHIBIT C-iB, PRE-MINING MAP, the location of the various soils on the property are
shown. In addition, an insert on that map summarizes the soil classification names as EXHIBIT I-2.
The vegetation features are also repeated as insert designated EXHIBIT J-2 on the same map. None
of these maps exhibits have been revised, as they are still applicable for this revised application.
The original soils and vegetation information was prepared almost four years ago. The original report
was prepared by Roy D. Bell. Mr. Bell formerly worked for and retired from the Soil Conservation
Service, and now works as a Soil and Vegetation Consultant. At that time there was no reason to
believe any endangered vegetation was present along the South Platte River.
After Mr. Bed's original report, there were changes in interpretation and identification of jurisdictional
wetland definitions, and the potential presence of Siranthes orchid had to be determined. Because
of these revised concerns when the original permit was being processed, Mr. Erick Olgeirson was
retained to perform a wetlands investigation and a site investigation on whether or not this orchid is
present in any area proposed for mining and/or be construction. A copy of this revised report was
included at the end of this section, and is copied again in this permit application.
Finally, although the Siranthes orchid was not found, the revised report did identify enough area of
wetland's disturbance, that would require wetlands mitigation and an application to the Corp of
Engineers for a permit. The mapped areas of wetlands outside of the South Platte River channel area
have been added to one of accompanying maps, EXHIBIT C-1B, PRE-MINING MAP.
The wetlands mitigation plan fits within the parameters of the original revegetation plan. The cover
letter for the permit application to the Corp of Engineers, application form, the wetlands mitigation
plan, and other items involved in that application are copied at the end of this section in this amended
permit application along with a copy of the approval letter from the Corp of Engineers.
Page 1, EXHBIT I-I & J-I
