5. The depth of the mine and the berms which was mentioned above in the landscaping section will
also help to minimize the dust from the operation.
D Noise
The only residences not owned by La Salle Aggregates or Bean that aze within 250 feet of the permit
azea are houses on the Appelhanz, Moon, Nation, and Corey properties. As such the amount of noise
which is emitted from the mine will be minimized as much as possible. Haldorson Sand and Gravel
commits to establishing a maximum noise level of 80 db at all times at the edge of the permit azea.
The 8 feet high berms which are placed around the perimeter of the pit will also help to reduce the
noise outside of the permit azea once the operation breaks the surface.
The fact that once the initial pit on the former George Property is dug to near the bottom, 45-50 feet
down, noise will be greatly minimized since all mining and processing will occur at the bottom of
the pit. Mining on the Metcalf and Bean Properties will occur from the bottom of the gravel, thus
minimizing noise in these areas.
E) Haul Routes
The gravel will be hauled to market using 10 cy trucks or 24 ton belly dump trucks. The road access
for this amendment will not change from the existing conditions. All truck traffic leaving the mine
will either exit onto the 6175 Road or the 6200 Road via current permitted access ways. The access
to 6175 Road currently exists where the mining operation has started in Phase 1 of the old permit,
where the DMG granted the Haldorson Sand and Gravel to mine to a depth of 13 feet. The access to
the 6200 Road will be the existing access way to the Metcalf Pit. Through mining this access to the
pit will change locations; however only one access way will be active onto the 6200 Road
throughout the minelife. The only impact that the mine poses on the County is an increase in traffic
on 6175 Road, 6200 Road, LaSalle Road, and other local roads needed for transportation to the
vazious job sites where the finished product will be transported. It must be noted that this impact is
identical to what has already been approved in the 2003 Special Use Permit since this new proposal
does not increase annual production.
Haldorson Sand and Gravel Mine 20
