create a 3H:1 V slope from the mined slope of 2H:1 V. This can be done by a team of two Cat 627
scrapers in approximately 5 days per year. Excess material will be used either to fill the bottom of the
pit or to create berms along the perimeter as shown on Map C-2. These berms will further reduce
noise to the surrounding areas.
Therefore, except for 5 days per year that topsoil/overburden stripping is being done, the operation
will not be visible; behind perimeter berms and approximately 40 feet lower than the surrounding
terrain. Also mining south and west from the former Metcalf Pit will be started from the bottom of
the gravel deposit, therefore this mining will not be visible from Spring Creek Mesa even from the
start.
C Dust
Since the mine will produce more than 80,000 tons of aggregate per year, a Fugitive Dust Permit
from the CDPHE will be required to be in place for the mine and the processing plants separately.
These permits are currently in place. Best management practices will be used in order to ensure the
that dust emissions from the site is minimized.
Dust will be controlled by the following steps: -
1.The operator will apply magnesium chloride and/or water to the gravel access roads and haul
routes as needed. The amount of either application will depend on the time of yeaz and the amount of
truck activity from the pit.
2. All crushing and screening operations will be conducted by equipment that is permitted with the
CDPHE and will have its own dust control items such as being fully enclosed and using water
sprayers where necessary.
3. The amount of time that the crushing takes place will be minimized as much as possible while
meeting the demands of the market.
4. Hours of operation will also be limited as agreed with the County. It is proposed above in Section
7 of the mining plan that the mine will operate for 12 hours per day six days per week. Operations
will not take place at night or on Sunday.
Haldorson Sand and Gravel Mine 19
