Protection: Topsoil stockpile #4 and the topsoil stockpile at
the bottom of the north intake access road showed the impact
from the effects of grazing in the form of reduced vegetative
cover. DMG issued a NOV requiring protection of the
stockpiles.
The topsoil stockpile located at the north intake needs to
have vegetation established to protect it from wind and water
erosion.
BACKFILLING AND GRADING
Contemporaneous Reclamation: The only area of reclamation
attempted at the mine is the completed lifts of the refuse
pile. This area, which was recently completed, has been
topsoiled, seeded and mulched. The mulch ha= been secured
with netting. The work completed on this area looks good.
There are no portal highwalls at this mine.
REVEGETATICN
Seeding: Seeding has been done on the refuse pile as
mentioned above. The seed mixture was net checked to see if
it was the same as approved.
Mulching: Straw mulch has been applied to the reclaimed area
and has been secured with netting.
Success: Revegetation success could not be checked during
this inspection due to the fact that *_he seeding has not beery
completed for a duration which would allow germination.
COAL MINE WASTE
Drainage Control: The diversions around the refuse pile were
not functional. The diversion on the west side of the pile
was cut off at its junction with a road allowing any runoff to
ran down the read. The diversion on the east side had eroded
and culvert CS had washed out. Another diversion was eroding
on the northeast side. DMG has issued a NOV addressing these
diversions.
Surface Stabilization: No problems were noted with the
stabilization of the pile. The top of the pile was graded to
allow drainage from precipitation.
Placement: Placement of material was not observed. No
observations were made that would indicate any problems.
11
