Discharges: DMG sampled the discharge from pond #2 and will
followup with enforcement action if the analysis of the sample
collected indicates an excedance.of the effluent limits.
Pond #3 was discharging black water during the inspection.
This discharge was flowing into the Purgatory River. DMG
issued a Cessation Order (CO> as a result of the discharge
which required cessation of all mine water off the site. The
company was given until S:OOPM the day the CO was issued to
abate the violation. The abatement time was not met since the
pond continued to discharge until the company was able to pump
the water into *_anker trucks and transport it to pond #4. The
water entering the pond was stopped shortly after issuance of
the CO.
Y.AJL / ACCESS R.O_~DS
Maintenance: Some roads on the mine needed maintenance, one
in particular was the road to access the water tank. This
road had ruts on a steer pitch which would allow water to be
channeled and cause more erosion. Road ditches and culverts
will be discussed below.
Ditches and r_u]verts: The road ditches identified in the
designs did not exist at the mine. There were ditches on the
access road from the guard station to the mine office.
Several culverts were not maintained to function as intended.
These were culverts 9, 5, 7 and the third culvert up from the
bottom of the north intake access road.
There were also several culverts which were not designed or
approved. These were as follows;
i. c4" culvert on the access road the SAE #7.
2. 36" culvert on the access road to SAE #5 and #6.
3. 30" culvert on the access road to SAE #5 and #6.
4. c4" culvert west of the tipple and the truck load
out.
5. 2 culverts on the access road to the north intake.
6. 18" pipe in the clean water diversion at the north
fan.
DMG has issued a NOV addressing the above noncompliances.
TOPSOIL
10
