Battle Mountain Gold
NOPV Abatement Requirements
page 5
Status: Satisfied - BMG has committed to the completion of the requested
investigations, the development of an appropriate
detoxification procedure, and the submissi pn of a
summary report in a letter of April 16, 19b2.
Deadline: Submit proposed modifications to ore processing methodology
no later than 45 days following cessation of CYTOX reatment;
at the latest, 45 days after June 24, 1992.
(8) Modification of Tailings Area Reclamation Plan:
The Division is concerned that the introduction of cyanide into the
tailings area may be indicative of the inclusion of associated fietallic
contaminants not originally anticipated in its approved operati ns and
reclamation plan. BMG's preliminary suspicions of altered meta lic ore
content, and the coincidental failure of the designed processin cyanide
recovery circuit, are additional indications of a modification n the
tailings chemical constituency. If the chemical constituency o the
tailings is different than the original projections, the projec ed
characterization of the tailings as non-toxic and chemically in rt is
suspect. Change in the tailings constituency may render the ap roved
final reclamation plan for the tailings inappropriate.
In light of any information developed by BMG in the course of iQs
required investigations, analyses and redesign, including any
modification to its processing methodology, BMG shall modify its tailings
area detoxification and reclamation plans appropriately. Appropriate
applications, supported by comprehensive analytical results and design
evaluations, shall be submitted by BMG to the Division for revi~w and
approval no later than 180 days following completion of the cya ide
detoxification of the tailings areas contents, described in ite~ (4)
above.
Status: Satisfied - BMG has committed to the completion of the requested
investigations, the submittal of a comprehensive
report, and the submission of appropriate ermit
modifications, if necessitated, in a letters of April
16, 1992. The Division originally specified
submittal within 90 days following detoxification,
however, BMG has demonstrated that 180 days, will be
required to complete the requested evaluation.
Deadline: Submit comprehensive report and proposed modifications to
tailings area reclamation plan no later than 180 days
following cessation of CYTOX treatment; at the lateslt, 180
days after June 24, 1942.
