Task 3.
A. Sampling Oversight
1.
The trips to the San Luis facility will be
undertaken at the direction of tt~e DMG in
accordance with the MOU. The company will receive
notification of the visit from the DMG ~s required
by the MOU. The first sampling trip will include a
site tour to familiarize the third-pax}ty sampler
with the facility and processes us~d at the
facility that may affect sample concentrations
and/or collection. The site tour mays include a
brief tour of the open pits, the avast~e rock and
tailings disposal areas, the beneficiation and
processing units, and any other releva t units or
areas at the facility. The third-pa ty sampler
will provide transportation from thei point of
origination (in this case, Boulder, Colorado) to
the Battle Mountain-San Luis facilit~ and the
analytical laboratory. Prior to arri ing at the
facility on each sampling date, the hird-party
sampler will pick up sampling bot les at a
laboratory approved and chosen by the Division.
Any sample preservation reagents will be added to
the bottles by the laboratory before p ck-up. An
environmental engineer from Battle Mou~tain Gold,
or an affiliated consultant, will actually conduct
the sampling, perform tests for field parameters,
and process the samples in the field. S mples will
be taken from monitoring locations de ignated by
DMG in accordance with the MOU. DMG mist specify
the number of monitoring locations, number of
samples and the analytical requirements in advance
to ensure that an adequate number of prepared
sampling bottles are obtained.
The sampling and analytical protoco~ will be
defined in TR-006, an approved QA/Q protocol
document for the collection of surface and
groundwater quality data. This document prescribes
methods for the collection of groundwater, surface
water, lysimeter and process sampled; for the
analysis of cyanide (total, WAD and fre~ cyanide -
possible maximum free cyanide by diffe ence); for
field quality control, and for oth~r crucial
aspects of sample collection, han ling and
analysis. For example, the groundwater sample
collection protocol includes methods for: cleaning
of sampling equipment; sample containers; sample
collection and handling; groundwater sampling;
locking wells; water levels and measurements; well
-2-
