June 24, 2003 -45- 003-2203.7
• 7.0 INTERIM WATER BALANCE
As identified in Technical Revision (TR) 40 to Amendment No. 8 to Office of Mined Land
Reclamation Permit M-1980-244, a revised water balance analysis was completed to quantify the
probable volume of solution within the VLF over time due to normal processing, water gained by
precipitation, lost to evaporation, and moisture retained in the ore matrix. The monthly model was
developed for the period from January 1995 through January 2020 for the entire VLF. The results of
the water- balance indicate that the interim storage requirement for the Phase N PSSA below
elevation 9606 is 29.1 million gallons (MG).
Based on as-built survey, Golder calculated the pore space volume of the Phase IVb PSSA below
elevation 9606 to be 5,617,444 cubic feet. This calculation uses the maximum ore depth of 51 feet
and an in-place ore density of 95.2 pcf, with a corresponding ore porosity of 0.34. This would result
in a storage capacity of 42 MG, indicating that the constructed volume is greater than the design
volume.
Calculations and stage-volume curve to verify the storage capacity are included in Appendix P.
~J
mooazosoaoo~e~ic.nesseooo3~oozzzo~.oaoa.a~wwx.P.aoo Golder Associates
