June 24, 2003 -39- 003-2203.7
. Golder personnel measured deployed panel lengths by use of a measuring wheel. Recorded lengths
were approximate, and do not reflect any trimming or adjustments made for final placement or anchor
trench lengths.
Golder personnel observed the surface of each deployed panel. Golder logged any penetration defects
and marked them on the panel. Section 6.1.4 provides further discussion of repairs. Golder also
observed the overlap of each panel with adjacent panels to verify that sufficient overlap for seaming
existed. Golder logged insufficient panel overlaps as defects and marked them for correction.
Ames surveyed all panel intersections and destructive seam sample locations. Using these points,
Golder has provided the lower and upper geomembrane panel layout record drawings (Record
Drawing No. 6 and Record Drawing No. 7), in Appendix A.
The lower LLDPE PSSA geomembrane deployment observations are presented m Appendix K-1, and
the upper LLDPE PSSA geomembrane deployment observations are presented in Appendix L-l.
• 6.1.3 Seamine
The double wedge fusion weld was the principal seaming method employed by Poly-Flex for this
project. Poly-Flex fusion seamed (welded) geomembrane on the same day that it was deployed.
Poly-Flex used extrusion welds for seaming where the Phase IVb 100-mil lower geomembrane
overlapped onto either the existing Phase III of Phase IVb geomembrane in the PSSA, for repairs, and
where conditions were unfavorable for fusion welding (e.g., sharp comers). Golder observed trial
seam tests, monitored seaming equipment temperatures and speed, and provided visual observation of
the seaming procedures. Golder observed the entire lengths of all seams, patches, and other repairs
either during seaming, or shortly after completion.
6.1.3.1 Trial Seam Monitoring
Poly-Flex performed trial seams to monitor the performance of the seaming apparatus and operator
under actual site conditions. Each welding operator and his apparatus produced trial seams prior to
the beginning of each day's seaming operation and in the event that devices were disconnected from
power and re-energized.
•
1:\OOQ10J\Od00\PnICertP55Ap601\OOSIIOJ.Od00.09Jd}Rep,doa Golder Associates
