June 24, 2003 -16- 003-2203.7
Geomembrane installation for the PSSA is discussed further in Section 3.3. Ames anchored
geomembrane at the limits of the Phase Nb PSSA in a double anchor trench, with the dimensions of
each trench a minimum of 3 feet deep by 2 feet wide. Ames backfilled the anchor trenches with
suitable anchor trench backfill material. Ames placed anchor trench backfill in maximum
12-inch-thick compacted lifs. Anchor trench backfill was compacted with ahand-operated, 500-Ib.
vibratory compactor and "Jumping Jacks." Phase Nb PSSA lower geomembrane was connected to
the existing Phase III or Phase Nb geomembrane with a minimum of 3 feet of overlap per project
requirements.
2.9 Low Volume Solution Collection System
The LVSCS is comprised of Low Volume Solution Collection Fill (LVSCF), the LVSCS sump, and
the Low Volume Solution Collection Riser (LVSCR) pipes.
Ames installed the LVSCS riser pipes to elevation 9624 in May 2003, consisting of two 14-inch
diameter DR 11 FIDPE LVSCS Riser pipes totaling 350 lineal feet. Pipe sections were connected to
. each other by fusion welds. Laborers haunched pipes with LVSCF and kept pipes in place during
LVSCF placement.
Approximately 4,3301ineal feet of 4-inch PCPE LVSCS piping was placed over the bottom
geomembrane layer, prior to placement of LVSCF.
Ames began placing LVSCF on the bottom geomembrane layer o£ the Phase Nb PSSA in
November 2002, and completed placement in May 2003. Ames processed LVSCF from
October 2002 to January 2003. Ames placed approximately 128,328 cubic yards of LVSCF in the
PSSA. In general, LVSCF was placed in a minimum 3-foot thick lift over the lower geomembrane.
LFSCF was placed around the LVSCS vertical riser pipes in maximum 12-inch loose lifts, and
compacted using ahand-operated vibratory plate compactor according to Project Specifications.
2.10 High Volume Solution Collection System
The FNSCS is comprised of HVSCS piping, the FNSCS riser piping and foundation, and the
I-NSCS sump. The HVSCS riser system is presented in IFC Drawings 23 and 23a, and the FNSCS
piping is presented in IFC Drawings lOb and lOc.
6\00\2203\Oi00\FnICenP55A0603\OOJ2203.0400.0)JI3Rep.d« Golder Associates
