I•
June 24, 2003 -15-
2.8 PSSA Composite Liner System
003-2203.7
The PSSA is a double geomembrane lined system with a lower composite liner and an upper
geomembrane layer separated by a Low Volume Solution Collection System (LVSCS), as follows:
• The lower composite liner system in the PSSA consists of either a minimum of
12 inches of compacted SLF overlain by a layer of either 100-mil single-sided
textured LLDPE geomembrane (textured side down) or 100-mil double-sided
textured LLDPE geomembrane; or a minimum 12 inches of compacted BF
overlain by a layer of 100-mil smooth LLDPE geomembrane on the Phase III ore
slope.
• The upper liner system consisted of either 100-mil smooth LLDPE
geomembrane, 100-mil single-sided LLDPE geomembrane or 100-mil
double-sided textured LLDPE geomembrane, placed on the LVSCF. The
HVSCS was then installed over the upper liner, consisting of the HVSCS piping
and DCF, along with the I-NSCS riser base plates and SDCF in the sump.
r 1
~~

The installation of the lower layer of geomembrane in the Phase Nb PSSA began in August 2002 and
was completed in May 2003. Poly-Flex installed approximately 296,843 (neat line) square feet of
100-mil smooth LLDPE, approximately 821,992 (neat line) square feet of 100-mil single-sided
textured (texture face down) LLDPE geomembrane, and approximately 52,371 (neat line) square feet
of 100-mil double-sided textured LLDPE geomembrane.
The LVSCS was installed above the lower geomembrane layer, including placement of LVSCF,
construction of the LVSCS sump, and installation of the LVSC risers. The LVSCS is discussed
further in Section 2.9.
The installation of the upper layer of geomembrane in the Phase Nb PSSA began in April 2003 and
was completed in May 2003. Poly-Flex installed approximately 1,018,485 (neat line) squaze feet of
100-mil smooth LLDPE, approximately 8,990 (neat line) square feet of 100-mil single-sided textured
LLDPE, and approximately 50,335 (neat line) square feet of 100-mil double-sided textured LLDPE
geomembrane, including geomembrane in the anchor trench and overlap.
A 2-foot layer of DCF was then placed over the upper geomembrane, along with the HVSCS piping
and riser base plates.
z:~oonzoz~o~oo~rmc«zrssaooo3~oozzzoa.oaoo.ozwrt~P.e« GOlder ASSOCIateS
