Mr. Kent Gorham
November 16, 1994
Page 18
flow magnitudes in the past. A sufficient hydrology database oonsisting of flow,
field parameter, aryl water quality information had been established far this
location prior to 1993 to define the pre-miairg hycirrology at this site. During
1993, no new mining activities with the potential of creating detectable impacts
occurred in the vicinity of this site.
Currently this spring is not required to be monitored further. Zhis spring has
been permanently c~icpo.v9rx3 frcmm the monitaring network. As om~ared to current
ranii reme7ltS, rn IDorrltarlrg omissions ooClIrred dtu~ing 1993; one additional flow
aryl field param~~~r visit ooaured in 1993.
Spring & Porri 7-1:
Spring & Pond 7-1 lies outside the area of any potential mining impacts. Advance
mining in the Closest nr.nrim;ty tp this site took place >r March 1985
approximately 2500 feet distant fran the site. A sufficient hydrology database
consisting of flow, field naramahcr~ and water quality information had been
established for this location prior to 1993 to define the pre-mining hydrology at
this site. During 1993, no new mining activities with the potential of creating
detectable impacts oaarrred in the vicinity of this site.
Currently this spring is required to be mmutored quarterly far flows and field
parameters; annually far water quality. The current monitoring is mired only
as a result of this feat~u e's standing as an adjudicated water riot within the
permit area. No misye related impacts can reasonably be expected to occur at this
site given the mining completed to date. As compared to anz'ent requirements,
four monitoring wnissions occurred during 1993; three flow and field parameter
visits were not aoccnq~lished in 1993 and the required annual water quality sample
was omitted. ~nese anissions are tempFSed by this site's remote location with
respect to mining activities o®g~leted to date aryl the presence of the
established pre-mining database.
Spring 21:
Spring 21 overlies an area of the East Mine outside of the projected subsidence
zone given the extent of mining to date. Retreat mining in the nearest proximity
to this site oocasred in 1986 sane 2000 feet distant fry the site. A sufficient
hydrology database consisting of flow, water level, field parameter, aryl water
quality information had been established priar to 1993 to define the pre-mining
hydrology at this location. Duri.rg 1993, no new mining activities with the
potential of creating detectable impacts oociured in the vicinity of Spring 21.
C~rently this spring is not required to be monitored further until one year
prior to reinitiating development of the Fast Mine. As oatq~ared to current
requirements, no monitarirg omissions ooasred during 1993; one additional water
level, flow, and field parameter visit oocxsred in 1993.
Spring 7-9:
