Mr. Kent Gorham
November 16, 1994
Page 16
Spring 25 is located 300 feet south and at an elevation app_*-rn;~++ately 10 feet
lower than the nearest coal mined durirg 1982. All available data in the
database was oolleCted during and after 1983. A sufficient hydrology database
consisting of flow, field parame*~+', and water quality information had been
established far this location priar to 1993 to define the hydrology at this site.
Spring 25 has erdribited extremely poar water quality since the inception of data
wllection efforts. During 1993, no new mining activities with the potential of
creating detectable ir~acts ooan-red in the vicinity of this site.
Gtu7ently this spring is required to be monitored quarterly for flaws and field
paramPtp,c; annually far water quality. 'Ihic monitaring is required as a result
of this feature's standing as an adjudicated water right within the permit area.
AS OmIQJaI'ed t0 CuiTer$. rq~iiT'pma*+ts, three monitarinq omiss]OTLS OOCllrred during
1993; two flow aryl field pa*~*~*- visits were not aooa~q~lished in 1993 and the
required annual water quality sar[q~le was omitted. Zhese omissions are tempered
by this site's location with respect to past minirg activity and the presence of
the established database docimientirg poar water quality with regard to this site.
In discussions with the Divisiarr*pga*+jiM Spring 25, the Division suggested
annual visits to this site with flow aryl field parameters collected in the spring
would suffice far this site until such time as the Fast Mine was reactivated.
4his suggested monitoring was ao~lished in 1993. However, in the interest of
maintaining wnsistency within the required monitoring network, CUVQC elected to
oo~mnit to quarterly monitoring far this site. Quarterly monitoring was
aoocm¢rlished in 1994.
Spring & Porri 18:
Spring & Ford 18 lies outside the area of any potential mining ir~acts. Advance
mining in the Closest prrn;m;ty to this Site took place in 1985 amrrnrimately
6200 feet distant from the site. A sufficient. hydrology database consisting of
flow, field parameter, aryl water quality information had been established for
this location prior to 1993 to define the pre-minirq hydzology at this site.
During 1993, no new mining activities with the potential of creating detectable
impacts oCCarrred in the vicinity of this site.
GUi-rently this spring is not required to be monitored further. ZYris spring has
been pern-anently ~,~*~~ frau the monitarirg network. As compared to current
r?rn~i*~*+ts, no monitarirg omissions ooasred during 1993; one additional flow
and field parameter visit ooc~sred in 1993.
Spring & Pond 20:
Sprirg & Ford 20 lies outside the area of any potential mining impacts. Advance
mining in the closest pm~ri m;ty to this site took place in March 1985
annmY;~++ately 2300 feet distant from the site. A sufficient hydrology database
consisting of flow, field para+!~~ ar, arrl water quality information had been
established for this location priar to 1993 to define the lse-mining hydrology at
