~~

applications now for this area in the Ranchland News, and prior to that the
Gazzette. I feel this is a fair practice. The paper it was published in is not
available to be purchased anywhere out here. I believe it is more by mailing
and not available on Internet. The name of the paper it has been published
in is The Fountain Valley News-El Paso County News.
My family has resided here for 14 years on Soapweed Road. We knew this
gravel pit existed but it was a County transportation operation and has
always been somewhat limited in use and duration. Never the less even
with sporadic use, to maintain roads in this area it has created numerous
problems, poor air quality (high amount of dust from County trucks},
dangerous roads, constant erosion; these complaints have been voiced for
years. There are other factors I hope you will weigh. There is a vast amount
of archaeological deposits that have been seen across this whole range and
that includes the proposed site. There are Geological formations within
close proximity of the site (paint pots) just west of site on Soapweed.
Water issues are of great significance. This area has seen tremendous
growth to the west, and is consuming water at a huge pace. Depending on
where this applicant drills these commercial wells of which we have no
idea; how much water will be needed could greatly effect everyone in this
area. Part of this land falls within the Upper Black Squirrel Creek Ground
Water Management District and part of it is in no district. The majority of
the wells in this area are in the Denver aquifer, and ifthey drill commercial
wells into the Denver it could cause material injuries to the existing wells
in this area to include the town of Calhans wells, which to the best of our
knowledge are in the Denver aquifer. The town ofCalhan is just east ofthe
proposed operation, and one of the town's best water wells is on Hahn
Road, just northeast of the proposed operation. Just west of the proposed
operation a massive commercial well field (Guthrie Ranch) was developed
for water to be transported to the fast growing Falcon area ,which is 13 to
15 miles away. All aquifers were tapped, the alluvial, the Denver, Dawson,
Arapahoe, Laramie-Fox Hills. Our concern is what appears to be additional
and significant water mining in this area; that it will further expedite
water problems for many individual landowners and the town of Calhan.
