2. Gold Mine Area Reclamation
~1 The mining plan describes that approximately 47 cuts will be made to bedrock as shown On Map
C-2. For this plan, the operation will be active in three cuts at the same time: the previous cut
will be in the process of being backfilled and topsoiled, the existing cut will have gold extraction
and the cut ahead of the active pit will have topsoil and overburden removal. In this way, the
disturbance will always be minimized to these three cuts. The processing plant and surrounding
azea will also be active during the mining operation. The final cut, Cut #47 will be smoothed to a
slope of 4H:1V or less and will be left as a lake for the post-mining land use. Ponds #1, #3 and
#4 will be combined into one lazge pond to serve the future development as a sediment catch
basin at the low point of the entire permit azea. Pond #2 will be filled in with overburden and
topsoiled.
As the operation proceeds, fines from the processing plant will be used to provide a substitute
topsoil on all previously disturbed and unreclaimed azeas. This amount will be no less than 2-3
inches. When virgin azeas are mined, all topsoil will be stripped and either immediately replaced
on the previous cuts in reclamation or will be stored in topsoil stockpiles which will be
} immediately stabilized with vegetation and will later be used in reclamation of the site.
At the end of the mining life, the following equipment will be dismantled and hauled off site:
• processing plant
• all fuel tanks
• shop building
• piping, portable conveyors, pumps, etc.
• camp trailers
The power poles will remain for the post-mining land use. The smoothing of the final cut lake,
the sediment pond azea and the processing azea will then take place, and all remaining disturbed
azeas will be topsoiled.
It is expected that the following acreage will require smoothing at the end of the mine life:
Alma Placer 7/03
38
