Bob Oswald
Re: West Sunday Mine, Permit M-1981-021
Request for Technical Revision
Page 2 of 5
Boundary Change -West Sunday Mine
The Operator proposes to adjust the boundary of the Affected Area at the West Sunday Mine.
The West Sunday Mine portal and surface facilities were apparently originally located on
tunnel site claims covering the mine entrance and immediate area. The area of the West
Sunday Mine entrance and related surface facilities is on land controlled by the cunent
Operator under unpatented mining claims.
The current proposal hereunder is to revise the Affected Area boundary at the West Sunday
Mine site to encompass all existing surface disturbance. The proposed Affected Area
boundary revision is within the area covered by unpatented mining claims controlled by the
Operator. Figure 2 shows the locations of unpatented mining claims covering the West
Sunday Mine site (many claims overlay each other in this area -the Operator controls all of
the claims in the Affected Areas). The West Sunday Mine site is located on claims DGM-A-
2, DGM-A-3, DGM-A-4, and Radio 1. Attached to this request is an August 29, 2002 receipt
from the Colorado office of the BLM evidencing the Operator's payment of the annual claim
maintenance fee for the claims covering the West Sunday Mine site. The claims in the
vicinity of the West Sunday Mine have been highlighted in the attached list of unpatented
mining claims.
Addition of Remote Site
After conducting detail reviews of past permitting activity and mine operations, it has been
established that the SJ-1 vent shaft location and a nearby compressor installation were never
included under existing Permits held by previous operators of the mines in this area. The
Operator proposes to add the SJ-1 vent shaft location and the nearby compressor installation
to the Permit. These features have been added to Figure 2, and the associated disturbed areas
have been included in the calculation of disturbed acreage under the Permit.
As with the proposed revision to the Affected Area boundary at the West Sunday Mine site,
control of the land at the SJ-1 location is also via unpatented mining claims. The SJ-1 site is
located on claims St. Jude Z I and St. Jude 23 (see Figure 2). The attached receipt from the
BLM and the list of unpatented claims evidences the Operator's control of the lands at the SJ-
1 site. The claims in the vicinity of the SJ-1 site have been highlighted in the list of
unpatented mining claims.
Description of Boundary
The proposed Affected Area boundary for the West Sunday Mine 112 Permit includes the
following features:
- West Sunday Mine, including access road, surface dumps, portal, buildings, and
all related surface installations and disturbances;
- WS-1 vent shaft and nearby power transformer installation;
- WS-2 vent shaft;
- WS-3 vent shaft;
