Box 466 <br />Silverton, Colorado 81433 <br />Division of Minerals and Geology <br />701 Camino del Rio <br />Durango, Colorado 81301 <br />Attn: Mr. Wally Erickson <br />RE: Eureka Gravel Pit M-1990-070 <br />dllN 1 5 2004 <br />burango Field OtFce <br />Division of iv4inarals ~ Geol:~~y <br />June 6, 2004 <br />San Juan County would like to ask for an extension of the deadlines for required <br />documentation for the maps and amended mining and reclamation plans that the <br />Division of Minerals and Geology required in their letter and inspection reports on <br />dated on 4/26/04 and 5/18/04. <br />San Juan County Road Department is getting maps ready and have consulted <br />Lambert & Associates of Durango CO. to do a inspection and a geotechnical <br />stability study and report on the Eureka gravel pit and the possible effects on the <br />stability of the slope and danger to the "county road" above the pit. San Juan <br />County would like for the deadline for the revised reclamation and mining plan to <br />August 15, 2004 or later so that the stability study can be completed and the <br />reclamation-plans revised and an extension of the deadline for the maps etc. until <br />June 28, 2004. <br />San Juan County has put up a sign warning the public of the potential danger of <br />of.County road #25's edge sloughing off or sliding away. The county has been <br />monitoring this hazard for several years. The county is having more adequate <br />signs made up to address this problem. The county does not fell that the danger <br />to the pubic of this road edge sloughing away is a critical issue at this time but all <br />measures will be taken to mitigate this problem and that any and all <br />recommendations form Minerals and Geology will be welcomed and applied to <br />this problem. <br />Than You,. _ <br />G~ <br />Louis Girodo <br />Road Overseer <br />
