f
~ •e ~~

vicinity of the tailings disposal area have been consistently
found to be dry except monitoring well M-9 which has indicated a
consistent water level at approximately 144 feet below the
surface. BMR conducts additional monitoring at other Wells
outside of the permit boundary as required by the water right
decree (Dos Hermanos and San Luis wells). Copies of all data
obtained since commencement of tailings deposition have been
submitted previously as part of BMR's quarterly reports and
additional copies are attached. To date, monitoring o~ wells has
not identified any changes in water quality which woul indicate
a release or potential release from the facility.
In response to the current circumstances, BMR con ucted
monitoring of all wells in the vicinity of the tailing facility.
Only one well (M-9) located downgradient from the tail ngs
facility has water standing. As noted above, the dept to water
in M-9 is approximately 144 feet. A sample from M-9 w s gathered
on April 3 under the supervision of Bruce Lytle, a hyd ologist
with Halepaska Associates. The results are enclosed a d,
consistent with previous findings, confirm that no rel ase has
occurred from the tailings facility. MLRD representat ves were
present and collected a sample for cyanide analysis us ng another
lab. BMR has not been apprised of those analytical re ults.
Monitoring wells M-6, 7 and 8 are also located below t e tailings
facility adjacent to M-9 but have been consistently dr and,
therefore, no samples were obtained.
Surface Water Monitoring
Sampling sites are established on Rito Seco Creek above and
below the project area and quarterly samples are colle ted.
Sample results collected to date do not indicate any r lease of
cyanide process solution. The analytical results refl ct trace
cyanide readings at R2-1 (River Station) above the pro ect area,
and well locations M-1 and D87-24 which are located ne t to the
West Pit mine area. RS-19 was a duplicate of RS-1. G ven their
location upgradient of any cyanide use at the facility„ BMR
believes these values do not reflect cyanide detectionlbut rather
are the result of either a sampling and/or analytical error.
Surface water monitoring results are also attached.
Air Ouality Monitoring
The Department of Health Air Pollution Control Di lsion
required San Luis to install air quality monitoring sues to
monitor particulate emissions. Therefore, the monitoring results
from these stations do not generate data related to cy~nide. BMR
is currently in compliance with applicable state and f deral
emission standards as well as applicable worker health and safety
standards.
