A photographic r=cord of embankment and disposal are development
will be started before deposition, and will be continued at regular
intervals during the life of the facility.
-2-:0 Monitoring Plan '.
The monitoring plan may be divided into six basic aheas; initial
tailings construction monitoring, monitoring of the disposal area and
embankment, monitoring of elements which affect the mass andlwater balance
of the disposal area, monitoring of the hydrologic system atG the San Luis
Project, monitoring of pit inflows and monitoring in response to a spill.
1
~2.1 Initial Construction Monitoring,
After construction of the Phase I embankment,i a series of
monitoring instruments will be installed in the embankment crest.
These instruments are designed to provide data on tMe performance
of the embankment after the embankment is const}~ucted. The
monitoring system consists of surface settlement sensors and
piezometers placed at selected locations. The piezom~ters would be
located so as to detect the development of phreatic had within the
drainage blanket and embankment fill. The settlement sensors will
provide data on the vertical surface displacements of he embankment
and give some indication of its 'en-masse' consolidation
characteristics.
Post installation baseline data from the instruments will be
obtained prior to operation of the facilities. Afteif commencement
of operation, readings of all instruments will be taken once each
month until trends are established. At that point Bt~R will submit
a technical revision to the MLRD showing the established trends and
requesting a reduction in the frequency of readings. A77 results
will be recorded and plotted. Additional readings swill be taken
whenever the rate or method of operation is modified,
