2.2 Disposal Area and Embankment Svstem
During operations, the settlement sensors will be checked on
a monthly basis and adjustments, if required, in subsequent lifts
will be made on the basis of the on-going monitoring program.
Monitoring will include quarterly sampling o{ tailings to
determine gradations, in-place densities, and deposition angles.
Density control tests will be performed on the tiailings sand
deposited in the disposal area to verify that deposition obtains the
required density. After a trend has been established iq the tailings
deposition testing, BMR will submit a technical revision to the
Division showing the trends and requesting a reduction in the
required monitoring.
Following establishment of a beach of tailings upstream of the
embankment and prior to construction of subsequent embarkment raises
a specific study of tailings affected by the raises will be
performed. This study will include a determinatior} of inplace
density, degree of saturation and material gradation fir evaluation
of the structural integrity of the tailings under statiQ and seismic
induced loading.
l~p'nltoring°~of~the_ flow site and'quarterly~sam ling-:af,the'~.
,, e~age~.fro~m _the drai.n_ system, at_the base of_ the tail ngs`will =be~;;'~
formed. ~ A-~plot~of -the -rate of `seepage over t me'_will_~_be
__ ,,----
'maintained and compared ta~~the predicted rate.' Chemi al analysis
of the collection pond seepage on a quarterly basis for the
parameters identified in Table G.1-2 of the approved permit will be
performed. In addition, the leak detection system of the collection
pond will be monitored for any water weekly during initial six month
start-up and monthly thereafter.
2.3 Mass and Water Balance Monitorino
Each of the elements used in the evaluation of ~,he mass and
