S. Department of the Interior. The current use of a good portion of the steep-sloped
surrounding lands r... a~, both public and private, is wildlife and livestock grazing range. The region is
particularly critical for deer and elk wintering range habitat.
SOILS SEGREGATION/REVEGETATION SPECIES l._lep
Overburden does not occur over the gravel resources at the site. Where clay beds are encountered within the
gravel deposits, such unsuitable material for aggregate production (spoils) shall be segregated where
possible and added to the topsoil stockpiles. Samples of such clay beds have determined it very low in salts
and thus suitable for plant growth medium for post-mining reclamation topsoiling. Undisturbed portions of
the site planned for Stages 2 & 3 mining have thin layers of surface soil mixed with cobble and sand. This
6- to 12-inch surface layer shall be stripped from areas to be mined and stockpiled with the other topsoil
following the clearing and grubbing of the juniper/pinion forest vegetation from the surface. Topsoil
reserves for eventual reclamation shall be amended by hauling soil & vegetation-rich material from cleaning
County road ditches from various parts of Ouray County. No oversized nor waste rock is anticipated in the
mined resource.
Reclamation seeding, fertilizing, and mulching shall follow completion of each stage's topsoiling, at the
appropriate season for planting, which is normally late fall. The seed mix, fertilizer, mulch, and procedure
recommended by Natural Resources Conservation Service (formerly S.C.S.) is the following previously
specified and approved mix.
"A/1 rehabilitated areas will be revegetated in the Autumn using the following seed and plant
species and distributions.
CURRENT APPROVED SPECIFICATION OPTIONAL NRCS RECOMMENDATION
Seed PLS/Ac
Western wheatgrass 3.216 20
Muttongrass 3.216 20
Junegrass 0.816 5
Needle&threadgrass 0.816 5
Indian ricegrass 0.816 S
Bottlebrush squitreltail 0.816 S
Rig sagebrush 1.44 lb 9
Black sagebrush 0.96 lb 6
Antelope bitterbrush 0.4816 3
Utah serviceberry 0.48 lb 3
True mountain mahogany 0.32 Ib 2
Douglas rabbitbrush 0.32 lb 2
"Seeding (miz) wdU be applied at the rate oj16 tbs.
