~~ • •
Task 3.
A. Sampling Oversight
1. The trips to the San Luis facility will be
undertaken at the direction of the DMG in
accordance with the MOU. The company wyll receive
notification of the visit from the DMG ~s required
by the MOU. The first sampling trip wil} include a
site tour to familiari2e the third-party sampler
with the facility and processes used at the
facility that may affect sample concentrations
and/or collection. The site tour may' include a
brief tour of the open pits, the waste rock and
tailings disposal areas, the benefic$ation and
processing units, and any other relevant units or
areas at the facility. The third-party sampler
will provide transportation from the point of
origination (in this case, Boulder, Colorado) to
the Battle Mountain-San Luis facilit~ and the
analytical laboratory. Prior to arrivang at the
facility on each sampling date, the ~hird-party
sampler will pick up sampling bottles at a
laboratory approved and chosen by they Division.
Any sample preservation reagents will tie added to
the bottles by the laboratory before p~ck-up. An
environmental engineer from Battle Mountain Gold,
or an affiliated consultant, will actually conduct
the sampling, perform tests for field parameters,
and process the samples in the field. S mples will
be taken from monitoring locations de,ignated by
DMG in accordance with the MOU. DMG mist specify
the number of monitoring locations, number of
samples and the analytical requirements in advance
to ensure that an adequate number oaf prepared
sampling bottles are obtained.
2. The sampling and analytical protoco~ will be
defined in TR-006, an approved QA/QC protocol
document for the collection of surface and
groundwater quality data. This document prescribes
methods for the collection of groundwater, surface
water, lysimeter and process samples; for the
analysis of cyanide (total, WAD and fregg cyanide -
possible maximum free cyanide by diffe$ence); for
field quality control, and for other crucial
aspects of sample collection, handling and
analysis. For example, the groundwa er sample
collection protocol includes methods fo~: cleaning
of sampling equipment; sample containers; sample
collection and handling; groundwater, sampling;
locking wells; water levels and measure~ents; well
-2-
