Primary, Secondary, and Incidental Products to be Produced
The primary products produced from the Litly Mines is white marble to be used for
cultured mazble production, pool construction, and landscape rock. The high quality
calcium carbonate may also be used in cement production and environmental control uses
such as acidic soils mitigation. Marble production will also include raw material for the
manufacturing of joint compound groducts.
Lower (near US50) Staging Area
The one-acre staging area located 900' East of the intersection of US Highway 50 and
Forest Service Road 228 is covered for entry and use under FS Road Permit SAL-378.
However, USFS District Management has determined that the Forest Service will allow
no stockpiling of material or storage of equipment more thantwenty-four hours. The
azea will be used for truck turn out and loading/unloading of mining equipment during
mobilization procedures.
Forest Service Road 228 from US Highway 50 to above Mine Site
This 17.8 acre area encompasses a 60' minimum affected land boundary along Forest
Service Road 228 from the intersection of US Highway 50 and FS Road 228
approximately 2.2 miles to southern boundary of the permit area. US Forest Service
documentation included in this submittal refers to special use permit SAL-378, a US
Forest Service conditional use permit for road use and maintenance.
Relocation of Forest Service Road 228 Within Affected Land Boundaries
Initial plans for road re-location have been modified to allow for maximum flexibility
with USFS during the period of time necessary to meet all potential NEPA requirements
prior to submittal of a formal re-location plan to the DMG. USFS personnel have
verbally approved an interim plan to extend FS Road 228 along the western side of the
containment berm from it's present location west of the Taylor Gulch crossing
northwards along the berm to the northern end of the presently disturbed azea. A
notarized letter approving this interim measure has been requested and will be forwarded
to DMG as soon as it is available. In addition, the initial Taylor Gulch crossing and rip-
rap channel has been constructed to allow for high cleazance vehicle access until the
proposed in-site road re-location is completed (2007). Existing Road 228 will not be
mined or removed prior to receipt of written USFS approval ofroad re-location.
Moreover, an alternative public access road using the roadway built to access the AML
adit opening located in the southeastern comer of the proposed affected land may be
considered for use. Regazdless of the alternative selected for public access in the future,
a permit amendment will likely be required. Colorado Marble, Inc., plans on developing
a long-range road re-location plan for FS Road 228 that will be submitted within the next
two to three years.
13
