EXHIBIT E -RECLAMATION PLAN
OVERVIEW
The existing Worthing Pit and the Expansion Area North will be reclaimed concurrently.
Historic mining activities at the Worthing Pit have produced three lakes currently used for
fishing, boating and water skiing. Historic mining activities on the Expansion Area North have
produced one small lake, little to no remaining topsoil or ground cover, and steep slopes. Under
this amendment, the proposed post-mining land uses for the Worthing Pit and Expansion Area
North will include areas of mixed residential and recreational. Should the geology be suitable, a
Technical Revision will be submitted for revising the post-mining land uses for the Worthing Pit
to also include a water storage facility (WSF) and access roads to the WSF.
There are approximately I11 acres of disturbance at the existing Worthing Pit. These acres
include three pit lakes totaling approximately 57 acres, a gravel stockpile and processing area,
topsoil stockpile and equipment storage yard. There are 21 acres of planned disturbance at the
Expansion Area North and 29 acres of planned disturbance at Expansion Area South. The
Worthing Pit and Expansion Area North will be reclaimed concurrently to be compatible with
historic and surrounding conditions. Expansion Area South will be reclaimed using the same
methods described for Expansion Area North.
Depending on whether a WSF is constructed, two reclamation plans (Reclamation Plan A and
Reclamation Plan B) are being considered. Exhibits F-1 and F-2 illustrate reclaimed topography
for Reclamation Plans A and B:
Reclamation Plan A (Without WSF) - The Worthing Pit will include
approximately 57 acres of total lake surface. The mined out Expansion Area North
will be backfilled to a minimum elevation of 4,996-feet AMSL, at least two feet
above the average ground water elevation of 4,994-feet, AMSL as shown on
Exhibit F-1. All pit walls will be sloped to a maximum of 3H:7 V. Overall, the site
will slope gently from east to west towards the South Platte River to provide
positive drainage.
Reclamation Plan B (With WSF) - Afrer construction of the WSF, the WSF will
be deepened, and excavated material will be used as additional backfill for
Expansion Area North. The overall maximum elevation of the Expansion Area
North under this plan will increase to approximately that of Brighton Road, 5,016-
feet AMSL, while maintaining the gentle east to west slope and positive drainage,
as shown by the post-mining reclamation contours in Exhibit F-2.
For bonding purposes, reclamation will occur in several phases, as follows:
Mining Expansion Area North -The 21-acre Expansion Area North is dewatered
and dry mined and remaining sand and gravel is dry mined from Worthing Pit. Afrer
Expansion Area North is mined out, it will be backfilled to at least two feet above the
groundwater table and slopes will be graded to no steeper than 3H:1V before
application of topsoil and revegetation. Backfill will he generated by excavating
shale from the floor of existing Pit Lakes 1 and 2 at the Worthing Pit. Final contours
are shown in Exhibit F-1, Reclamation Plan A.
]898-Frei Ill Bzhibits_(4.20.OS).doc E-1
