David Berry - 3 - April 7, 1998 <br />flow rate of less than one gallon per minute. No other inflows were noted in the <br />mine. <br />5. DMG -Please provide a description of the faults shown on the mine progress <br />map submitted will; the Bear rnine 1996 Annual Nydrnlogy Report. Did ttrese <br />faults exhibit any offset. Were these fault areas rnoist or did they produce any <br />vrater inflow? <br />Bear -The fault at the end of the 3rd west panel is an indication of lack of coal. <br />No groundwater flow or colluvial inflow was present at this transition area. The <br />fault line at the end of first and third north is an indication that the character of <br />the coal changed. There was no groundwater flow at the end of these panels. <br />There was no conspicuous displacement in any of the faults. <br />6. DMG -Did Bear personnel observe any water inf/o~a~s or areas of the mine ~a~ith <br />elevated temperatures? <br />Bear -Bear personnel did not observe any water inflows with elevated <br />temperature. The water that emerged from the 3'd west seals in June 1995 did <br />not have an elevated temperature. Bear had two "hot spots" within the Bear <br />Mine. One of the hot spots was in the pillar between the intake and return <br />approximately 140-feet inby the portal. It was approximately four to five feet <br />long. The pillar was cooled by water injection into the hot spot. The second hot <br />spot was in the small triangular shaped pillar in the return near the portal. This <br />pillar was also cooled with water injection. <br />7. DMG -Please provide a detailed description of the manner in avhich water was <br />handled in ttre Bear tJo. s" 65irre. Where vrere water accurnulations collected <br />artd/or stored. Describe any s:rrnp vol:rrnes and locations. <br />Bear -There is one sump in the B-Seam located east of and at the bottom of the <br />ramps. Water could be pumped to this sump from the outside well. The sump <br />could pump water to the working sections and to the NPDES discharge point at <br />the river. The mine inflow at the 3`d west seals was piped to flow to the sump or <br />by gravity flow directly to the NPDES discharge point at the river. The only place <br />water accumulations were stored was in the above mentioned sump. The <br />volume of the sump is (150 to 200 feet long by 20 feet wide by 8 feet high) <br />approximately 0.5 to 0.7 acre feet. <br />8. Db?G -Describe airy pipe installations which occurred to handle mine inflows. <br />Did all inflows gravity flow to sumps, pipes or discharge locations?
