RCG/Hagler, Bailly provides clients with the iological and <br />psychological expertise necessary to identify the Itey characteristics of risks that ost signi£cantiy <br />influence attitudes. Through the use of highly structured surveys, RCG/Hagler, Bai] staff identifies <br />communities and their attitudes toward environmentally seasitiveprojects, allowing p jest managers <br />to anticipate public response in developing risk communication and manage ent strategies. <br />RCG/Hagler, Bailly studies have been used to refine and redirect federal risk com unication and <br />management programs and also to help communities successfully site and develop in ustrial facilities. <br />Examples include: <br />^ Evaluatlon o[ the EPA's Rlsk Communlcatlon Programs in Publlc Schoo <br />This study, which addressed risks from lead in drinking water, radon and asb tas in schools, <br />improved upon the EPA's previous efforts to disseminate information o schools and <br />identified a need to improve its methods of working with key state agenci <br />^ A Survey oo a New Hydro-Power Developmeut <br />This survey, which assessed public attitudes and opinions regarding a new by ro facility, was <br />used to develop a public information strategy for a Northeast electric utili . <br />^ Community Relatlons Trabtlng for Managers <br />RCG/Ffagler, Bailly provided training in risk assessment, communication, management <br />principles as well as the use of quantitative (polling, demographic analysis) nd qualitative <br />(focus groups, case studies) took for project planning to managers of major waste <br />management company. <br />^ Assistance in Risk Commmlcatlon and Risk Management <br />This work, conducted for private clients, has included assessment of pub c opinion and <br />leadership positions, participation in hearings, and development of strategies f r project siting <br />and community outreach programs for solid waste incinerators, waste-to< ergy facilities, <br />community landfills, and solvent dktnbution and recycling centers is the U red States and <br />Europe. <br />^ Polltlcal Consensus on Environmental Prloritles <br />This project, prepared for the EPA in Denver, used new strategies to work with a diverse <br />group of public leaders in Denver to build a consensus on environmental management <br />priorities for the metropolitan area. <br /> <br />
