MINING PLAN (CONT)
IIR~D® APRIL ZOO2
ExNlslr D
on the south side of the site. Additional shaping may take place
on the mine side to stabilize that slope but it will generally be
left as it is now. In addition, the area shown as Stage A has
been incorporated into Stage S and Stage S has been reshaped to
correspond with the change to the shape of the berm.
Amendment # 8 - SECONDARY ACCESS ROAD
The "Secondary Access Corridor" is where a second access
road will be built. This road will provide one way access from
Highway 6 to the mining area. As a result of the increased
demand for product the operator began to plan for future hauling
needs in 1999. This increased demand had put more pressure on
the single entrance than expected in 1983. The analysis and the
current operation indicate that a change is needed to the way
trucks enter, flow thru and exit the site. To optimize traffic
in and around the mine it has become necessary to add an addi-
tional access point into the mine.
The new road proposal is to build a one-way access to the
mine floor so that vehicles traveling up Highway 6 will enter the
mine from the east near where Highway 40 meets Highway 6. This
east entrance would nearly eliminate all trucks turning right
into the existing entrance and reduce the time trucks coming off
I-70 have to sit in the decell lane waiting to make a left turn
into the quarry. It would also improve the traffic pattern in
the quarry and eliminate some of the circulation problems being
encountered now.
in 1999 the Frei applied for an access permit from CDOT and
received preliminary approval (permit #199103) based on the road
being a right in only access. The permit requires a decell lane
with a 90 degree turn on to the mine property from the CDOT
R.O.W.. The exact details of the entrance design is not known at
this time. This will be finalized once we have approval. This
7 (Revised 8/19/02)
