taken place to date. Advance mining occurred in the vicinity of this well
during 1981 arri 1982. A sufficient water quality database has been
established to define the water quality at this location although all
samples have been collected subsequent to the advance mining. 'Therefore,
only one full suite analyses was wtducted during 1992. Chloride and
r~iela oaramerers ror au4uso were omlLrea rrom me aaram~se as Well: mi =
8.5; DC = 620; 77mID C° = 13. Monitoring at this location should be
temporarily discontinued as no subsidence impacts can reasonably be
anticipated to effect this location and as substantial baseline data has
been collected to date.
SM-8Z: Well SM-8 is located outside the potential subsidence zone. No mining
which could be reasonably e~g~ected to affect this shallow aquifer has
taken place to date. A sufficient water quality database has been
established to define the pre-mining water quality at this location.
Given the lack of minim i.n the area, aryl the existing database, no full
suite analyses was wnducted during 1992. Monitoring at this location
should be temporarily discontinued as no subsidence impacts can reasonably
be anticipated to effect this location at this time and as substantial
baseline data has been collected to date.
SM-9: Well SM-9 is located directly over Panel C which was advance mined during
1992. A sufficient water quality database has been established to define
the pre-mining water quality at this location. Zhree full suite analvses
database as well: August off = 7.8; DC = 720; ~ C° = 13. Monitoring
frequency at this location should be reduced as sufficient baseline has
been established and all mining which could be anticipated to effect this
aquifer has been cong~leted.
SM-42: Well 3+I-4 is located outside the potential subsidence zone. No minirq
which could be reasonably expected to affect this shallow aquifer has
taken place to date. A sufficient water quality database has been
established to define the pre-mining water quality at this location.
Given the lac7c of minim ]n the area, aryl the existing database, no full
suite analyses was conducted during 1992. Monitoring at this location
should be temporarily discontinued as no subsidence impacts can reasonably
be anticipated to effect this location at this time and as substantial
baseline data has been collected to date.
No deep areally extensive groundwater water bearing formations capable of providing an
economically feasible and usable water supply are known to exist in the Orchard Valley
Mine permit area. Aquifer yields are extremely low and water quality is poor.
Perched aquifers do occur and are routinely encountered and dewatered during the
mining process. Significant mine inflow events (> 5 gpm for more than 30 days) have
never been observed to occur at Orchard Valley. No discharges from the Orchard Valley
Mine have ever taken place. Zhe direction of groundwater flow in the area is downdip,
away from the mine workings into areas where overburden depths increase and potential
water supply development becomes even more impractical. COVCC suggests that the
14
