C ~ the vegetation cover
P ~ erosion practice
The factors for the equation were obtained from the book Soil
Erosion by RirRby ~ Morgan, 1980, data in the original lower
waste permit report and from projected slopes as shown on the
various phase diagrams. The sediment yield for each phase, the
sediment yields for the vegetated areas, the sediment yield for
the unvegetated slopes, the expected maximum sediment level for
each phase, the 508 sediment level for each phase, the maximum
sediment level allowed for adequate storage for the 10-year, 24-
hour storm without discharge, and the maximum water elevation
obtained for each phase is shown on Table 6.3. -.~nr ail phase
-sed~mew~-wi-11•t3et be rliowed to -risz higher t2ran the -maximu~
owable sediment level without removal ~ It should be noted
that the pond will be pumped dry as soon as possible after the
storm event. The water will be treated as stated in Section 6.4
of this report. In no case will the water or sediment level be
allowed to remain above the maximum allowable sediment elevation
shown on Table 6.3 for any long duration period of time since
water or sediment levels above the maximum allowable sediment
elevation may result in discharge from a 10-year, 24-hour storm.
elevations for both the sediment and water levels will be
itored with the use of a staff gauge placed in the pond.
Elevations will be monitored by West Elk Coal on a routine basis.
This information will be periodically reviewed during the various
phases to verify the original design assumptions.
23
