Drainage and Sediment Control
The drainage and sediment control system for the Elk Creek mine gob vent boreholes will be
consistent with the previously constructed Sanborn Creek Mine gob vent boreholes. The
drainage and sediment control for the Elk Creek Mine borehole sites will be managed as a small
azea exemption with alternative sediment control provided by a combination of perimeter
sediment control berms/ditches and installation of straw bales, straw waddles or silt fence, etc. to
reduce flow velocity and trap sediment. To facilitate the control of upland drainage, if the site is
suitable, an upland clean water diversion will be constructed to reduce overland flow into the
effected azea. Permit Map 2.05-M4 (4~' sheet) Drainage and Sediment Control Plan provides a
typical example of a drill pad lay out. Exhibit 2.05-E3, Drainage and Sediment Control Plan,
Section 9, Revised and New SAE's and Alternative Sediment Controls provides typical designs
and demonstrations for alternative sediment control and clean water ditch scenarios. Exhibit
2.05-E3, Drainage and Sediment Control Plan, Section 6 contains information regazding mudpit
hydrology demonstrations.
Bonding/ Reclamation Cost Estimate Considerations
The anticipated additional road disturbance for access to the GVB-LW12-O1 is 1,325' by 10 - 16
feet wide or a total of 0.49 acres of additional disturbance. The pads will be approximately 80
feet wide and 130 feet long or 0.24 acre each. Total pad disturbance will be approximately 0.96
acres. Total additional acreage is 1.45 acres and borehole footage is estimated to be 7,630'.
As in the past, we are requesting that the Division prepare a cost estimate to complete the total of
1.45 acres of reclamation activities. We would like to stress that the boreholes will have the 9
5/8" casing cemented in place and there will be no reason to mobilized drilling equipment to
ream out the borehole. Consideration for down hole reclamation should only include plugging
the casing and sealing with cement using a standard redi-mix concrete truck.
Attached please find a proposed public notice which will be published in the Delta County
Independent upon notification by the Division that this application is complete. Please contact
me at 970-929-5806 if I can provide any additional information or if you have any questions.
Sincerely, ~ ~/~
~r
J es A.
