~ ROBINSON ~ ;~~, ~,~
~~ ~ ~ BRICK ~
COMPANY ~1 ~ -'
' ~E~.7~Y
~~ :.:Ci:._ : - -
~'
October 26, 1982 ~~ ~
Mr. Mark Loya
Mined Land Reclamation Division
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, Colorado 80203
Dear Mr. Loye:
1 will answer your comments from your October 20, 1982, letter in
the same order as that latter.
Buffalo Y1 Mine - Technical Revision
t Thank you for the suggestion of changing the land use to "Rangeland".
As per your suggestion. I request that all areas to be revegetated
ba changed to "Rangeland". I would also like your suggestion as to
what to designate the areas that will not be vegetated.
Per your suggestion, I have contacted the Soil Conservation Service
of Elbert County. Please find attached the comments of Anthony Puga.
Mr. Puga states that.tha topsoil that is present is located near the
base of the knoll and should be stockpiled and then spread and seeded.
Wa have already agreed to do this. Alr. Puga also states "tops of knolls
are very harsh, calcined clay with no organic type topsoil present".
In answer to my question, Mr. Puga has also suggested what he considers
to be the best seed mixture for this area if revegetation were attempted.
Ha also states that our chances of establishing any grass stand is
minimal. Since these knolls are virtually barren to start with, were
barren when mining started, and will probably ba barren no matter what
is planted, (excepting, of course, if topsoil were trucked in) the

Robinson Brick Company should not be required to ravegetate.
Per your suggestion, Robco will leave the post-law disturbed areas
' that do not require topsoil somewhat uneven and covered with a few
inches of calcined clay. Compaction of the calcined clay is not
necessary since it acts like gravel when used as abase material.
Buffalo 112 Mine - Amendment
Proof of publication and notification to the adjacent landowner is
included with this letter. Elbert County has stated they are sending
a latter confisminQ that wo conform to the zoning in this area.

..,...
P.O.
