~~. ~ ROBINSON .. ~
BRICK ~
COMPANY ~0
' ~ @3'3C.71~
~ ^r
September 16, 1982
Mined Land Reclamation Board
1313 Shetman Street
Denver, Colorado 80203
RE: Amendment to Buffalo M2 Mine - Permit M78-12
' ~ Duo to errors in the original permit as well as an increase of
the affected area, an amendment to the referenced permit is being
submitted. The major change will be to extend the boundaries of the
affected area as shown in the attached map. This xill increase the
affected acreage from S acres to 9.9 acres. A check for ;75 (S25
plus X10/acre of increased acreage) is enclosed. The legal for this
area can be reduced and made more specific by changing it to read:
the SEh SBtt of Section 28; and the Sk SYlh of Section 27; T7S, R62W,
6th P.M.
r The second change is the method of mining. Due to technological
changes, both the calcined clay that was originally referred to as
overburden and the clay can be used. The thickness of the calcined
clay is approximately 35 feet and the clay approximately 10 feet,
Both materials will be mined into stockpiles and hauled to the brick
.plants as the plants need this material.
Since the calcined clay is now being used, there will be very
' little overburden. The overburden will consist of the contaminated
calcined clay lying on or near the surface. This overburden will be
overcast on the barren steep slopes of the knolls. Care will be taken
so that none of the existing topsoil near the bottom of the slopes
will be covered. Since the calcined clay is similar to rip-rap, this
method will prevent any erosion on the steep slopes of the knolls
during the mining process. After mining of each slope is complete,
that knoll will be reclaimed.
The third change is the method of reclamation. The original permit
stated there was 3 feat of topsoil. This is incorrect. Thsse knolls do
not have any recoverable topsoil; this can be substantiated by noting
the lack of topsoil on the adjacent undisturbed knolls. Since there
is no recoverable topsoil, retopsoiling of the mined area will not be
possible. The level portion of the mined areas will be smoothed with
a motor grader. Any overcast slopes that were created post-law will be
brought down to a slope of 3 to 1 or flatter. If there is a chance of

I P.O.
