expressed primarily by the ob~ectore then there would have been litrle
reason to delay the planting. Therefore, trees currently in etorago and
under maintenance will be planted in both areas in late September or
early October 1990. The Colorado State Forest Service Nursery has
informed us that this approach Ss appropriate for these particular eiitea
(telephone discussion with Randy Moench on June 4, 1990).
2. ROAD SIDE DAMAGES:
s. Trees not planted by June 1, 1990.
i. INCOMIPLETE GRADING AND TOPSOILING: Because the grading
and topsoiling, particularly of Disturbance Area ~Q, was far more
difficult, complex, and time consuming than was expected and because the
installation of the culverts took longer than expected to complete, the
grading vas not completed in time to plant trees and have a suitable
degree of success in the planting.
11. PROBLEMS WITH DISTURBANCE AREAS ~2 AND ~3: The company
that did the work on Disturbance Area N4 determined they could not
feasibly do the work on these other two areas xith their equipment.
Their reasons were, 1) there is an insufficient amount of material on
the elope to construct benches from which the equipment could work, ~qnd
2) the slope is too steep for equipment to work on directly, even under
the best of conditions.
iii. MAY SNOWSTORM: In early May, about two feet of very last
snow fell on the site. After melting, the soil and subsoil material;a on
the slopes were so saturated equipment could not complete topsoiling of
Disturbance Area ~1 until late May after the surface had dried
sufficiently. By that time it xas too late to plant trees. If the
snowstorm had not occurred then trees would probably have been planted
on Disturbance Areas //1 and in Williams Canyon (that would have been a
valid comparison of success rates for the tree plantings in both areas).
3. SILT RETENTION FACILITY: Nothing was required to be done by June 1,
1990. Facility is being laid out for construction in late June or iri
July 1990.
/,. CULVERTS: Resolution of differences of opinion was to be resolved. by
March 31, 1990. Awaiting resgonses from Cedar Heights Lenders regarding
the options they feel are best for the situation (they have been
reviewing the plan since March 21, 1990). Once a decision is made s~ to
the option selected, it is a comparatively simple matter to install it.
5. ROCKFALL HAZARD; Nothing required to be completed by June 1, 199C.
Page 4 of 7 SNYDER CAP TIMETABLE ADJUSTMENT 6-z0-go
