the Division and of the users if problems arise. Finally, the Division advises BRL
to contact the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment concerning
this potential change in the receiving stream for the mine water discharge.
9b. Please provide a discussion in the permit as to the exact method that will be used
for bringing the mine water discharge do+vn the hill within the permit area.
Please provide modified hydrology designs for any czlverts or ditches t{znt will
receive the ndditionnl flow. Please show any ne+v slructzrres on an appropriate
map. The revised NPDES permit states that mine x•ater discharge may
commingle with swface runoff in pond C. If the mine water will be put into pond
C before discharge, please update the designs for that pond, ns well as the
designs for any culverts and ditches, inc/trding Old Highway 13j culverts and
road ditches, involved in the flow path. Obviously, these designs wozzld need to
be approved by the Division before the mine water could be routed throzrgh the
drainage control system.
The revised NPDES permit also states that domestic waste water treatment will
commingle with pond B surface rzrnoff water. /f Bowie Resozrrces wishes to, the
discussion and modifications that +vill be necessary for the tivnste water addition
can be provided with this revision.
BRL has not responded to this question yet. Please provide a response.
9c. Once mine water discharge is transported over the Deer Trail Ditch and the Fire
Mountnin Canal, what will be the effect of the water quantity and quality on
downstream users ? Please add this discussion to [he probable hydrologic
consequences section, per Rule 2.O.i.ti(3)(b)(iii). Inclzrde in this discussion
whether this discharge can possibly adversely affect the North Fork of the
Gunnison Alluvial Valley Floor or any prime farmland. If structures will be
added to pipe the mine water discharge into the North Fork of the Gunnison,
please add this discussion to the permit, along with pertinent designs. If any
such structures are built that go beyond the current permit boundary, then, a
revised permit boundary that includes these structures, and appropriate right-of-
entry information for that new permit land, need to be supplied.
BRL has not responded to this question yet. Please provide a response.
9d. On proposed revised page 2.04-35, it is stnted that sediment loading wozdd be the
only impact of the mine on surface water. In light of the statemen[ concerning
mine water discharge, please modify the statement on page 1.04-35 to include
mine water discharge.
The Division has no further concerns.
