C. E. Johnston -2- July 12, 1993
protection on transmission lines owned by others within a
permit area.
The transmission line is 660 feet long and is constructed with
three poles.
6. No response required.
7. The quantity of coal waste that will require excavation is
2,000 cubic yards. See response to item 8.
8. Enclosed is a new Figure 2 - Coal and Non-Coal Waste
Reclamation & Disposal Plan that presents atypical section of
how the site will be backfilled. The sequence of the
backfilling operation will be as follows:
1. Place coal and non-coal waste in the disposal area.
2. Grade the bench material up and back over the disposal
area to form AOC.
3. Place topsoil, seed and mulch.
The disposal area could be up to 700 feet long. It has a
capacity of approximately 12,700 cubic yards. The following
material will be placed in the disposal area:
Waste Source Cubic Yards
Coal Waste - To Be Moved to Disposal Area 2,000
Coal Waste - Located in Disposal Area 1,900
Rail Road Ballast 1,100
Concrete (400 X 1.5 Swell) 600
Pavement (100 X 1.5 Swell) 150
Sediment from Pond (Max Allowed by Permit) 1,500
Total Required Disposal Area Capacity 7,250
The disposal area has an excess capacity of about 5,450 cubic
yards (12,700-7,250). If the disposal were completed filled,
the contours of the reclaimed surface would increase
approximately one foot as compared to the original ground
surface. This one foot rise from AOC is not considered
significant.
9. I do not believe that cross-sections A-A', B-B' and C-C' need
to be included in the volume calculations shown on Map 13.
Section C-C' does not cut the coal pad therefore would not
contribute to the quantity calculation. Sections A-A' and B-
B' are taken "in between" other sections. They would not
actually contribute anything to the volume calculation except
a closer spacing of the sections in two areas.
