Adit plug construction monitoring 6

' 2.3 Adit plug monitoring
The measurements to be taken as part of the adit plug monitoring include:
' water pressure behind the plug, and
• visual inspections around the plug and portal.
1
2.3.1 Water pressure monitoring
' The water pressure behind the adit plug will be measured upon completion of the adit plug
construction using a pressure gauge mounted on the stainless steel pipe that is cast into the adit
' plug. The pressure will be monitored on a daily basis until pressure behind the plug is considered
stable, and then weekly thereafter. Contingent upon plug performance, this monitoring schedule
may be reduced further with approval from DMG. Should the pressure exceed 11 psi, the
' monitoring frequency may need to be increased during this construction period to ensure the plug
is operating adequately.
' 2.3.2 Visual inspections around plug and portal
' Visual inspection of possible seepage around the adit plug will take place during this monitoring
period on a daily basis. If seepage is detected, flow will be directed to the infiltration trench. At
this time, infiltration trench monitoring will take place as described in Table 2.2.
' Visual inspection around the portal will also take place in an attempt to detect the possible
development of springs and seeps. This inspection will also be performed on a daily basis during
this period.
2.4 Reporting
' During this period of adit plug construction monitoring, the relevant data gathered as described
above will be summarized in a monthly report for submittal to DMG. This monthly report will
' supersede the current monthly reporting requirements (ie, Infiltration Trench Monthly Monitoring
Report).
