The monitoring
described below will be conducted following the period of plug construction once the plug and
portal areas are considered stable. The duration of the long term adit monitoring is planned for
two years. As appropriate, based upon monitoring results and evaluation, the monitoring program
will be revised in concurrence with DMG. Ultimately, satisfactory performance and monitoring
results will be used to support a recommendation for discontinuance of the monitoring program.
Overall, the long term adit monitoring program is similar to the adit plug construction monitoring
program with the exception of frequency. A summary of the long term adit monitoring program is
provided in Table 3.1. Each measurement is described below.
3.1 Infiltration trench monitoring
In the event that seepage from the adit is delivered to the infiltration trench during this monitoring
period, monitoring related to the infiltration trench will be pertormed on a monthly basis, with the
exception of the Trench-Intel water quality sampling, which will take place quarterly. The
procedures for carrying out the infiltration trench monitoring will be as described in the previous
discussion (Section 2.1) regarding the adit plug construction monitoring data collection.
If the infiltration trench is in operation during any part of a given month, data gathered as it relates
to the infiltration trench monitoring will be summarized as part of the reporting described in
Section 3.5.
1
